Destiny 2 is a massive online experience, and occasionally, Bungie takes it offline to undergo maintenance or update the game. Usually, these happen before weekly resets on Tuesdays, but sometimes Bungie deploys emergency maintenance to fix some ongoing technical issues; and every so often, Destiny services may be brought offline to undergo scheduled maintenance for the launch of a brand new expansion or Season.
On 30 January 2024, Bungie will launch a new update for Destiny 2 Season 23. That means Destiny 2 servers will be taken offline for a major new patch. So here's everything you need to know about when the maintenance will end and how long you'll be booted from the game.
Is Destiny 2 Undergoing Maintenance
If you're reading this, chances are the answer to your question is a big fat yes.
Bungie will periodically bring the game offline for updates and hotfix maintenance.
We try to keep this page updated every week with any news on future maintenance and updates from Bungie. In this case, you'll find everything you need to know about the next maintenance update and downtime, further down the page.
If, however, you're reading this page and we've not updated it to reflect any future maintenance, it's possible Destiny 2 is down due to unscheduled server issues. You know, the ones that normally results in an increase in BEE, WEASEL, and other animal-based errors in Destiny 2.
In which case, you might be best hopping over to BungieHelp on Twitter to find out what's going on!
How Long Will Destiny 2 Be Down For Maintenance
According to Bungie, Destiny 2 server maintenance will begin on 30 January 2024 at 5 am PST (1 pm GMT) and last 6 hours.
At 6:15 am PST the game will be brought offline and players will be removed from in-game activities until 9:00 am PST.
At this point, a new Destiny 2 Update should be available to download on all platforms.
If you're wondering about the Destiny 2 Patch Notes for this update, don't fear, you can read everything Bungie has stated will change on the link above.
Do note that players logging into the game may be placed in a queue and may experience sign-on issues as background maintenance will continue until 11 am PST (7 pm GMT).
Console players who encounter issues updating to the new update should first restart their console and try downloading the update before seeking further help from BungieHelp on Twitter.
