Early Life, Parents & Education

Arsema Thomas was born on June 19, 1994, in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, to her mother, Nardos Bekele-Thomas, who hails from Ethiopia, and her Nigerian father, Adebisi Babatunde Thomas. Growing up in a multicultural family, she was exposed to different cultures from a young age, giving her a unique perspective on life. She has a younger sister named Abigail Thomas, and the family has lived in several countries, including India, Comoros, Kenya, Togo, Uganda, and Benin. Her multicultural upbringing gave her the ability to communicate fluently in English, French, Yoruba, Spanish, and Amharic.

Arsema completed her high school education at Linden Hall. She initially planned to pursue a career in global public health, which was her passion from an early age. However, her love for the arts never faded. In 2014, she completed a Summer Shakespeare Acting Course at Yale University and a Summer Film Course at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in 2017, where she honed her acting skills. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Biophysics from Carnegie Mellon University in 2016. Arsema continued her education by pursuing a Master of Public Health from Yale University in 2018, with a focus on chronic disease epidemiology.

Acting Career

Arsema’s journey to becoming an actor was not a conventional one. After completing her Master’s degree in Public Health, she planned to attend the Conservatory for Actors at Yale University. However, a tragic event in her life changed her course. She lost her father to Lou Gehrig’s disease, which made her realize that life is too short not to pursue her dreams.

Arsema started by taking short courses at some of the world’s top acting schools, including the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, the Cours Florent in Paris, and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London. In 2018, she got her first role as Leila in “Nightwatcher,” a short film. However, that was not enough for her, and she continued to work hard. Her talent was recognized, and she was accepted into the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA), from where she graduated with a Master of Fine Arts in Professional Acting in 2022.

Her dedication and hard work soon paid off when she landed her debut feature film role as Rebecca in “Redeeming Love,” which premiered in 2022. This breakthrough role helped put her on the map and led to even bigger opportunities. In the same year, she booked the role of young Lady Danbury in the highly anticipated Netflix period drama prequel “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.”
