The popular legal drama Suits ended in 2019, but what has star Gabriel Macht — who played "closer" attorney Harvey Specter — done since then?

Considering the actor's incredible performance over nine seasons, the question of what happened to Gabriel Macht after Suits ended in 2019 is an issue on many fans' minds. The USA Network's popular legal drama debuted in 2011 and managed to stay on air for just shy of a decade. The face of the show, Macht played successful attorney Harvey Specter, the self-described "best closer in the city," who hires a college dropout for his uncanny photographic memory.

However, Harvey has to hide the fact that said associate, Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams), is practicing law without being a real lawyer. Across the nine seasons, Harvey and Mike are joined in Suits by an ensemble of determined paralegals, out-for-themselves law partners, and profit-driven peers. While Mike makes his Suits exit in season 7, Macht's slick closer remains at the show's center, making him a fan favorite (and frustration). Of course, it has been some time since the Suits finale aired and Gabriel Macht officially closed one chapter in his acting career, leading fans to wonder what the actor has been up to lately.

Gabriel Macht Hasn't Acted Since Suits Ended In 2019

After cutting his teeth in action-centric war and spy films like Bad Company, The Recruit, Behind Enemy Lines, and The Good Shepherd, Gabriel Macht landed the titular role in The Spirit, a neo-noir superhero film that was written and directed by Frank Miller (Sin City). Despite its visual flair, The Spirit bombed — it wasn't quite the star-making role Macht had likely hoped it would be when he was cast. On the television side of things, Macht had one-off stints in popular shows like Sex and the City, though he was also plagued by unaired pilots and shows that lasted just a few episodes.

In 2011, Suits changed Macht's trajectory. As the series co-lead, he was finally able to shine — and for an impressive nine seasons, no less. Landing the Harvey Specter role put a pause on Macht's film pursuits, though the actor picked up producing duties on Suits too. Macht can also be seen in one of the many shows to watch after Suits, appearing as Harvey in the short-lived spinoff series Pearson, which followed Gina Torres' titular powerhouse lawyer. Otherwise, Macht has been content to step away from acting.

What Has Gabriel Macht Done Since Suits?

Despite not acting since 2019, Gabriel Macht has enjoyed his post-Suits life. Initially, Macht planned to travel with his wife, fellow actor Jacinda Barrett (Bloodline), and children for a year or so. "We invested so much of our lives and as great as an experience [Suits] has been — it has been such a blessing for so many of us... — I have a real sense of freedom having now finished it," Macht told TV Insider in 2019. "And I’m happy... I want to put some creative heart, more focus and energy into [being with] my wife and my family." For now, Macht seems to be taking a well-deserved break from acting and hasn't formally announced any new projects after Suits.
